Flashing Steel, Roiling Fog! Empty Flashing Steel, Roiling Fog!

    Post by Valkyrie 16th April 2017, 02:45

    "Visit sunny..."
The sign is faded, damaged and covered in moss.

For a change of pace, it has been decided that todays battle shall be held out on the open moors, an area known for bogs and fog. About it really. Unless you're like super into moss, then that is your own issues that need attending.

Dotted here and there are mounds of stone, or Dolmen, to use the technical name, some offering a little cover, but not much. Other than that, its open land, a gently rolling landscape spotted with small pools of water that denote sunken bogs lurking just out of sight.

Which may cause issues with zoids, if someone goes a little too quick into a deep patch of sodden earth, its not like it has to contend with...oh wait a minute, it does!.

The other major export...is fog. Which, given the time of day the battle takes place at, will be a major issue, but unlike the airline industry a battle waits for no environmental effect!

TL;DR: Bogs: Terrain obstacle, fairly minor, have fun with it.
Fogs: Thick. Obscures vision readily (reduction to 75% accuracy automatically.). May be edible. Possibly may burn off about lunch time.
    Logs: none to be found.
    Fro... Okay enough of that...

Larayna goes first, switching out in the subsequent round and so on.

The usual lineup of judges is unavailable today, so this battle will be presided over by a moonlighting wrestling announcer.

    Pilot Stats and Zoid:
    Roleplay

Larayna Beroe felt a little bit uncomfortable as she round down in the elevator to the hangar. She’d had to have a new outfit for the occasion, hoping it would make her feel better about this whole thing. Her favourite brown leather boots, black leggings, a long tight fitting grey top and most importantly of all her new jacket. It was a dark grey, almost black cotton with the pale symbol of Arcadian embroidered on the back. Her Platinum locks had been pulled back in to a tight bun, secured by her white bow. The roar of the Whale King’s engines disturbed her nervous thoughts. She rubbed one shaking hand with the other as the doors opened to the spacious hanger inside the belly of the beast. One of the mechanics ran up to her, his face dirty with grease.

“Good luck out there, Miss Beroe,” he said cheerfully. “Oh and be careful, Cap’n says the fogs like soup.”

“Thanks Gerald,” she smiled and made her way over to the stone grey command wolf that belonged to her and climbed into the cockpit. Settling in, she buckled up and ran through the system checks. “Zoid core at nominal temperature. Power levels optimal. Command system activated. Weapons safety,” she paused. This bit was new to her. “Off.” She heard the dull whine of the various capacitors to charge the weapons. The ammunition feed for her new railgun clunked as it was loaded. She turned her gaze towards the opening maw and flicked a switch on the console disabling the locks that held the wolf in place during flight.

“Larayna, you’re go for launch,” the Whale King’s Captain spoke over the communication system. “Good luck!”

“Copy,” her grip tightened on the throttles. “I think I’ll need it.” The wolf stalked from its docking bay and made its way out of the open mouth. As soon as she was clear the Whale King massive turbines built back up to roar and the massive beast took to the skies again. She was alone now against her opponent. She took a deep breath to calm her nerves and took in the sights. They weren’t kidding about the fog. They had failed to mention the bog though, but she knew about that from the information the ZBC had given. Her first battle, she wondered if Ander, Anna and Jason were watching as she took up her position. Her opponent was out there somewhere.

    The buzzer sounded.

The fog gave Larayna an idea. She eased the throttles forward, taking it steady and trying to avoid any bogs. She watched for any sign of dark movement amongst the white. Seeing what she thought was the enemy zoid, she took aim with her cannons and fired. The energy beams lanced out in to the gloom, hopefully towards the bulk of the enemy form. But she had given her position away, rather than dash, she had her wolf stay low. It cautiously slinked back in to the fog and made its way towards the enemy, trying to stay out of sight. At least until the time was right. Her hand moved gracefully across the controls to the switch for the smoke stacks at the back of the zoid. Black smoke plumed from the back of the wolf as she put her plan in to action. Her opponent would surely be drawn to the expanding smoke cloud. That was when she launched her counter attack.

The wolf lunged forwards. Energy capacitors built up to whine as a glow surrounded the fangs of the wolf. In one sweeping movement, it dived down low then pushed upwards with its powerful hind legs. Aiming to latch on to the enemy’s neck, she used the momentum to throw the opposing zoid in to the bog. Larayna’s breathing had become heavy as the adrenaline rushed her system thick and fast. The High Velocity Railgun sprang to life. The rails that gave it the name glowed purple. Larayna took aim at the hopefully struggling opponent in the bog. She squeezed the trigger and felt the recoil as the round thundered out of the weapon. She then turned the wolf and had it run back in to the coalescing fog and smoke out of sight.

Using the wolf’s keen senses, she listened and watched for movement. Turning her wolf towards the first sign of her opponent, the still charged railgun took aim. She pulled the trigger again, aiming for her opponent’s body once more. She moved again, being careful to avoid any bogs as she went low once again to reduce any visibility her opponent might have. As soon as she was close enough, Larayna had her wolf break into a run at her opponent once more. She caused the fangs to charge but had no intention of making a strike. The feign was to draw her opponent out of the fog. As soon as she had a clear shot, she leapt sideways and took aim with the beam cannons. They cried out with vengeance as once again, beams pierced the murky whiteness of the foggy bog.

Flashing Steel, Roiling Fog! Empty Re: Flashing Steel, Roiling Fog!

    Post by Aiyana 17th April 2017, 03:14

    Stats and Zoid:

    Battle RP
The battlefield before her was ominous. The fog that rolled over the landscape gave her a chill down her spine as she listened to the odd noises of the wind that stirred the fog into eerie shapes and swirls that blocked visuals to a degree. The woman could only see so far ahead of her using her own eyes, which meant relying on the radar to provide her a better grasp on where she and her opponent was. Not only that, but she needed to make sure that the Zoid's movement did not put them into a bog and mess them up during combat. It was not long before some strange announcer, most definitely not the normal judge Aiyana was used to hearing, yelled for them to 'get it on' and the horns to tell the start of battle blared throughout the battlefield.

As usual, the Command Wolf pilot reached down towards the Nanotech settings and set it to protect against solid rounds. Setting the armor coating early had not helped her against Takeshi, but it had kept her in the fight longer than she had had any right to be. Even as the armor did its changes, the woman would line up her sniper rifle with the location of her opponent, or so she hoped, and let loose a quad shot of the bullets. Four quick depressions of the trigger would let loose a double shot for each front leg. If the attacks landed and took out at least one of the intended targets she would have an easier time in this fight. It was a mirror match for the type of Zoid being used, and a disabled limb would put her on the advantage for maneuverability in an area that was already hard to see.

"How about we add some smoke to this scene? Make it a bit harder for them to hit me in return." The words would leave her mouth as she moved the Command Wolf forward, activating the smoke dischargers even as she weaved her way around the bogs and dolmens of the field as the smoke began to darken the air even further. At this rate, it would be nigh impossible to land a shot from a distance, which made her reliance on rifles a little bit of a danger to herself and caused the pilot to keep the distance a bit shorter than normal so that accuracy was not too hindered for the duration of the battle. Not wanting to wait too long before shots, the woman would line up the eighty calibur rifle and let loose a salvo of shots with it. These would be aimed at what she hoped were the rear legs of her opponent. Just one leg needed to go, then this battle was a straight shot from there. Well, that and managing to not get put out of the fight herself as well!

Not waiting very long after the shots, not even waiting to see if she had managed to land a hit, the woman would simply move to her right a bit and let loose another quadruple shot from the sniper rifle. A clink could be heard from inside the cockpit as the weapon made the obvious sign of needing time to reload as the shots that were designated for the left front leg and rear right leg flew towards the direction she had aimed them at. Not wanting to remain anywhere easily visible, the Zoid pilot would guide her Command Wolf to the nearest dulman and use it as cover for anything that may be coming at them. Whether it would succeed in doing so was not a thought to be had, there were other things to think about after all!

Coming out from the dulmen and firing at her opponent had been the original plan as she leapt to the right to try and get vision on her opponent. The sound of weapons fire could be heard as she did so, but her hand had not pressed any of the triggers before her. Taking careful aim in the direction of the noise, Aiyana would fire off the anti-Zoid beam cannons and attempt to melt the bullet from the air before firing again to try melt the armor off of the right front leg of the Zoid that had fired at her.

Another burst of energy would erupt from the beam cannon, this time her target was the left rear leg before Aiyana would begin to run back into the mix of fog and smoke that her Zoid had caused. With luck, this fight would go in her favor. Worse come to worse the battle would continue on and she would have to try something a bit riskier and bring the fight into melee range. If she had missed when already at a closer range then there was no reason to continue trying the preferred method of attack.

    Here we go...
    =(=(=Narrative=)=)=
Right out of the starting gate Aiyana steeled her zoid against a possible physical pounding that wouldn't come, as Larayna opens with a quick blast of energy beams to give her opponent what for!
Unfortunately for Aiyana, Larayna had gotten up close and personal, with a savage mauling that was completely ignored by the nanotech armor!

Cameras switch to showing superimposed thermal imaging as both zoids spew choking smoke from their flanks when Aiyana strikes suddenly, her shots defying the laws of physics by successfully striking the rear legs of Larayna's command wolf, crippling the poor zoid.

However, because of the sudden inability to use its rear legs, the Arcadian's zoid drops from where it would have stood and as a result the followup attack that would surely have ended things went whistling overhead to land some distance away, blowing apart of lone bowl of cereal perched atop a mushroom shaped rock.

This changes however, when Aiyana's next attack manages to find its mark, blowing the front right leg to scrap and taking Larayna out of the battle, the response from the Arcadian went wide just before the final blow.

Unfortunately however, the owner of the bowl of cereal cried foul, and conjured forth earthen magics while screaming "U Wot m8?" loud enough for all to hear. The magical endowments meant both participants were practically brand new...if a little more earthy than before....still. Theres that fog 'n all.

    =(=(=Resolved actions=)=)=
1: Aiyana: Gains 40% reduction in projectile damage taken, Misses double attack outright.
Larayna:Hits, dealing 60dp energy damage. (Aiyana Body: 160/200)

2:Both: Smoke reduces accuracy by 40%
Aiyana:Hits double attack (Larayna back legs 0). Larayna's zoid is crippled, but able to drag itself around.
Larayna: Hits, Aiyana's body reduced to 100/200.

3:Both: Both attacks miss completely. (Whaaat?!)

    4:
Aiyana: Hit, front left leg 0, Larayna unable to move. Knock out.
    Larayna: Miss.

5: - Round over. Larayna unable to move.

    ????????

Someone has stolen a bowl of strawberry shmiggles. Angering the spirits of the moors, raising bog monsters from their festering deeps as magic creeps its mystical way into the air....it seems they're suuuuper angry at someone...

Magic + Bog bits + ??? = Larayna's legs are 'repaired', temporarily of course. Aiyana is covered in erupting magical ooze and somehow is back to full armor.... this is a bit wierd folks...apparently theres talk of druids being involved.

you know what they say about gift horses and mouths...

    Aiyana is up next!
